DESCRIPTION:The OC Forum will be hosting Free Speech on College Campuses event for members and guests to have the opportunity to hear from Chancellor Gillman at the Richard Nixon Library.\n\n\n\nThe University of California   birthplace of the Free Speech Movement   launched the National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement to support and advance research\, education and advocacy on these challenging issues. The center explores how the fundamental democratic principles of free speech and civic engagement must meet the challenges and opportunities of modern society. Through research\, advocacy\, debate and discussion\, the center helps ensure that the next generation of leaders is prepared to defend and advance these values.\n\n\n\nHoward Gillman\, chancellor of the University of California\, Irvine and a noted First Amendment scholar\, serves as co-chair of the center's advisory board and provides administrative oversight of the center.  He's also joint author of a new book\, "Free Speech on Campus\," with Erwin Chemerinsky\, dean of the UC Berkeley law school.\n\n\n\nChancellor Gillman will discuss the generational shift in students' views on free speech and the impact on the campus conversation.  His remarks will touch on cutting-edge issues such as the cost of protecting speech\, the changing nature of protests on campus and what role colleges and universities can play to ensure the robust exchange of ideas.
