DESCRIPTION:County of Orange Health Care Agency\, Behavioral Health Services Center of Excellence will be offering two\, day-long seminars on Mental Health First Aid at the Fullerton Public Library. The library is located at 353 W. Commonwealth Ave.\, adjacent to City Hall.\n\n\n\nThese seminars will be held on both Friday\, April 13 and Friday\, April 20 from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.\n\n\n\nWhat is Mental Health First Aid?: The initial help given to a person showing symptoms of mental illness or in a mental health crisis (severe depression\, psychosis\, panic attack\, suicidal thoughts and behaviors) until appropriate professional or other help\,including peer and family support\, can be engaged.\n\n\n\nMental Health First Aid is a highly interactive\, 12-hour program taught over several days\n\nor weeks to small groups.\n\nYou will learn:\n\n	\n		The prevalence of mental illnesses in the U.S. and their emotional and economic cost.\n	\n		The potential warning signs and risk factors for depression\, anxiety disorders\, trauma\, psychotic disorders\, eating disorders\, and substance use disorders.\n	\n		A 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care.\n	\n		Resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.\n\nWho can be a mental health first aider?\n\n\n	\n		Educators/school administrators\n	\n		College/university leaders\n	\n		Human resources professionals\n	\n		Members of faith communities\n	\n		Homeless shelter staff and volunteers\n	\n		Primary care workers\n	\n		Mental health authorities\n	\n		Substance abuse professionals\n	\n		Consumers and family members\n	\n		Caring citizens
