SUMMARY:Holiday Closures in Fullerton
DESCRIPTION:Fullerton City Hallwill be closed from Monday\, Dec. 26\, through Monday\, Jan. 2\, for the winter holiday season. It will reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday\, Jan. 3.\n\n\n\nEmergency city services such as police and fire protection will be unaffected by the closure\, and city maintenance crews will be on standby in case of emergencies.\n\n\n\nThe city's holiday closure program is designed as a cost-saving measure as government business traditionally slows down during the holidays. Under the program\, city employees take the days off either as their regular paid holidays or as part of their accumulated vacation time\; they do not receive special paid time off for the closure.\n\n\n\nThe Fullerton Main Library\, Hunt Branch Library and the Library's Bookmobilewill be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 2. Patrons wishing to return books over the closure can place them in the "book drop boxes" at both the Main Library and the Hunt Branch Library. \n\nPatrons can use the library's website www.fullertonlibrary.org to search databases\, access the library's catalog\, and renew materials or place books on hold. Patrons will also be able to download e-books and audio-books via the website.\n\n\n\nWhile the Treasurer's Office at Fullerton City Hall will be closed during the holidays\, residents who chose not to mail their payments may still pay their water bills by dropping the payment envelopes in the water payment box located on the exterior of the north side of City Hall. \n\n\n\nResidents may also pay their water bills on-line by logging onto the City's website at www.ci.fullerton.ca.us or www.cityoffullerton.com\, and clicking on the drop-down menu titled "Residents" in the green bar near the top of the home page. When that menu drops down\, click on "Utilities" and then "Water Service" and you will find a link that will allow you to make your payment on-line.\n\n\n\nThe city's Community Development Department will be closed during the holidays\; however\, building officials will be available to conduct inspections Dec. 28-29. Citizens needing to schedule inspections either of those days may call (714) 738-6542.\n\n\n\nAll divisions of the Fullerton Police Department\, with the exception of the administrative office\, will be staffed during the closure. \n\n\n\nThe Fullerton Fire Department's Fire Suppression Division will be fully staffed during the closure\; however\, the department's administrative office will be closed. The Fire Prevention Division will be open and inspection services will be available Dec. 28-29 by calling (714) 738-6500.\n\n\n\nThe administration office at Fullerton Municipal Airport will be closed during the holidays\; however\, the Air Traffic Control Tower will remain open\, and airport service workers will be available to assist pilots through the closure.\n\n\n\nMaintenance crews will be on duty to handle emergencies during the closure. No street sweeping will be performed Dec. 22-Jan. 2. Normal street sweeping operations will resume Jan. 3.\n\n\n\nSince both Christmas and New Year's Day fall on Sundays this year\, MG will not make trash collections on Monday\, Dec. 26\, or Monday\, Jan. 2. Residential collections will run one day late for the remainder of both weeks.\n\nCitizens wishing to recycle their Christmas trees may either cut the tree up and place it in their yard waste container\, or they may place it with their trash on their collection day during the two weeks following Christmas.\n\nFor residents who select to place their trees out with their regular trash\, the tree stands (both metal and wood)\, decorations\, lights and tinsel must be removed. Also\, trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half. \n\nFlocked trees cannot be recycled. Citizens may discard their flocked trees by cutting them up and placing them in their regular trash containers or they can call MG Disposal at (714) 238-2444 to schedule a "bulky item pickup." There is no additional charge for that service.\n\n\n\nFurther information about city closures during the holidays may be obtained by calling the city's Public Information Office at (714) 738-6317.
