Description

Army Officer to Speak at Veterans Day Ceremony
Clinton J. Reiss, regimental command sergeant major for the 11th Armored Cavalry Regimentat Ft. Irwin, will be the guest speaker at Fullerton’s 24th Annual Veterans Day observance Friday, Nov. 11.

The observance, hosted by Fullerton American Legion Post 142 and the Fullerton Emblem Club 469, will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a parade in Fullerton’s historic downtown.

The parade will begin at the Downtown Plaza, located on Wilshire Avenue, east of Harbor Boulevard and adjacent to the Fullerton Museum Center, and end at Hillcrest Park, which is located at the intersection of Harbor and Valley View Drive.

Leading off the parade will be a special “fly-over” of the route by planes from Air Combat USA, which is based at Fullerton Airport.

Once at Hillcrest, a ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the veterans’ memorials, at which Reiss will speak.  The ceremony will also include the placement of wreaths at the veterans’ memorials, as well as the playing of “Taps.”
All veterans are welcome to join in the parade, which will feature JROTC units from Fullerton area high schools.  The Troy High School unit will carry flags representing all 50 U.S. states.

Parade participants are asked to arrive at the plaza no earlier than 10 a.m.  To march in the parade, veterans must be able to march in regular cadence for approximately three-quarters of a mile.

No banners other than the flags carried by the JROTC units will be allowed in the parade.

The City of Fullerton is assisting with the event.

Further information about the parade and ceremony may be obtained by calling the Fullerton American Legion at (714) 871-2412.

Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the ceremony are asked to contact the Fullerton American Legion prior to Nov. 11.

For safety reasons, pets will not be permitted either in the parade or at the ceremony.
